Description
The item up for sale is a mid-century modern Stangl Pottery Granada Gold nut or candy dish from the late 1950's to early 1960's. It is leaf-shaped with hand-painted 22k gold paint brush strokes over light peach ceramic (hence the name "Granada Gold.") Its a beautiful, retro piece of functional art and, whether you use it as a candy/nut dish, a catchall or just a decorative accent, its sure to draw attention! The origins of Stangl Pottery are a bit unclear but, its confirmed the company began in New Jersey in the early 1800's as Hill Pottery, producing utilitarian pieces for farmers. The original owner passed, the company was purchased in 1899 and the name changed to Fulper Pottery. They continued to make utilitarian pieces out of stoneware and gradually began producing other items. Finally, in the 1930's, the company officially became Stangl Pottery and remained that until 1978, when the company closed. Despite the uncertainty of the company's beginning, this wonderfully creative pottery has adorned dinner tables, end tables and curios for decades and has become highly collectible.
This dish measures approximately 8" long by 8.25" wide and, it is in excellent condition. All of the gold paint seems intact and there are no scratches, chips or cracks. Please see the pictures above and feel free to email me with any questions.
